| Le Poulailler (french
for henhouse) is a renovated Charentaise farmhouse set in 14 acres
of rolling countryside in Charente, south west France. The gite is
surrounded by woodland inhabited by many deer, it is a nature lovers
paradise and provides the perfect setting for a relaxed and peaceful
holiday. Frank and Christine Rogers live here, with their friendly
cat called Oliver and two dogs; Freckle and Daisy, who bark when necessary!

We are only 2 kilometres
from the picturesque village of Aubeterre-sur-Dronne, designated as
one of the "Plus Beaux Villages de France".
The old small market town is fascinating with it's shady square and
many beautiful views. Visitors will delight in discovering it's history,
particularly the monolithic church.Below Aubeterre, is the River Dronne
and a beach. Swimming, canoeing, tennis and fishing are all possible
here, plus many
other activities during July and August.

The seven bedroomed, main part of our farmhouse, sleeps up to 14
people. The layout of the house, with details of beds can be seen
on the floorplan.(click on the floorplan to enlarge)
Five bedrooms, all with washbasins, are on the
first floor. The sixth bedroom, off the terrace, has an en-suite
shower room.The seventh bedroom is on the ground floor with access
to a shower.

| The sitting room (also
with a dining table) is beamed and spacious, It has satellite tv,
radio DVD and video. An open-plan staircase leads to the mezzanine
which provides more space for relaxation. |

The kitchen is large and fitted to hotel standard-
it provides:
- gascooker - 2
fridges - freezer - dishwasher-
microwave.
- washing machine and tumble dryer.
- Iron, hair-dryer and fans are available.
- Travel cot,high-chair and baby bath.

| The first floor terrace faces south-west
with panoramic views of the countryside fringed with woodland- an
ideal place to enjoy a glass of wine and watch the wildlife! |

The 12x 6 metre swimming pool, close to the house, is fenced with
self-locking gate for child-safety. Patio with furniture. B.B.Q.
All linen and towels are provided but guests are requested to bring
their own towels for swimming.

"Le Poulailler" is located on the
border of the two South-West French departments Charente and the
Dordogne.
Approximately 50 km South of Angouleme and 100 km inland from Bordeaux.
Arriving by car- the most convenient ports are St.Malo; Caen , Cherbourg
and Le Havre.
Also the Channel Tunnel to Calais.The suggested route is Le Mans.
Tours, Poitiers, Angouleme and is about 500km (300 miles),
Bmibaby fly from Birmingham to Bordeaux;
Flybe from Birmingham, Southampton and Bristol to Bergerac.
Ryanair Airlines fly from Stansted to Poitiers and Bergerac.
TGV from Paris to Angouleme.

Guests are asked to arrive between
16:00 and 18:00 on Saturday,
and to vacate by 10:00 on the day of departure, also Saturday.
Midweek changeovers may be possible out of high season. |

A visit to the area would not be complete without
a visit to the local Street Markets:
Aubeterre-sur-Dronne on Sunday, Chalais on Monday, Riberac on Friday
Aubeterre has 2 bakers (mouth-watering pastries!) a butcher, pharmacy,
newsagent and grocers, plus shops to browse around.
There is also a bank and cash-point in the village. The nearest supermarket
is at Chalais (11km) and is open on Sunday morning during the summer
season.
There are many restaurants in the area from those serving regional,
country food to high-class French restaurants. Also a Macdonald's
in Angouleme! |

Situated on the border of the Charente and Dordogne,
there are many interesting places to visit: Chateaux, churches and
areas of natural beauty.
Tours can be taken around the many cognac houses with tastings
St.Emilion and the many vineyards of Bordeaux are only a 40 Minutesdrive
by car.
Angouleme (40 minutes), the capital of the the Charente department,
and Bordeaux (1 hr.) for shoppaholics
Talmont, St. Georges and Royen on the Gironde Estuary (2 hours).
Futuroscope is 2 hours away to the north.
The Visitor Centre in Aubeterre arranges many local events, in-
cluding rambles, concerts and organised tours of the village.
You will find a folder in the house containing a full, up-to-date
list of local attractions and places to visit.
